I went to Baguio to redeemed a cash certificate from my cooperative. It is a small amount but huge enough to purchased some diapers and groceries. I find it odd though, that in reflecting on the cooperative’s role in making essentials accessible, it brings to mind Karl Marx’s ideals in communism. Both concepts emphasize community support and equality. Just as cooperatives foster a sense of shared resources and mutual aid, Marx envisioned a society where wealth and resources are collectively owned for the benefit of all.
While the scale differs, the essence of cooperation and communal well-being resonates in both narratives. In the context of cooperatives, there is a resonance with Marx’s emphasis on workers collectively owning the means of production. Cooperatives, often driven by member’s active participation and shared decision making, reflect a microcosm of Marx’s vision for a society where individuals have greater control over their economic destinies.
